Some great singing goes on in some schools but many teachers are not confident enough in their own musical abilities to teach it with confidence.

However, most of the National Curriculum levels 1 and 2 requirements for musical knowledge, skills and understanding can all be delivered via singing. No special resources are needed and every child can participate at his or her own level. All children have their own personal, unique instruments – their voices. And so do all teachers, when they are given the confidence to use them!

Singing requires children to listen with concentration and develops internalisation and aural memory in a natural and enjoyable way.
Songs make use of all the musical elements and structures.

And of course singing is great fun!

I can offer a whole day’s singing with your pupils. A typical day would involve working with two groups in the morning, typically infants and juniors or lower/upper age ranges. After lunch the two groups are combined and the afternoon concludes with an informal performance of the songs learnt to an invited audience of parents and carers. My choice of songs can be tailored to a theme or just for fun.

Is there no time to teach songs for a festival? I can teach and rehearse a selection of songs during the morning ready for a performance in the afternoon. I am also happy to conduct music festivals involving children from a group of schools.

Contact me to see how I could help your school become a “singing school”.
