The Maldon
Singers is a very friendly ‘drop-in’ singing
group meeting from 7.30 – 9.30pm every Wednesday evening
in term time at the Baptist Church Hall in Butt Lane, Maldon. The
weekly fee includes a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit
at break time.
Repertoire includes folksongs, world music, spirituals and rounds.
Most is sung ‘a capella’ although we also use backing
tracks and keyboard. We do not give regular performances but sing
just for our own pleasure. However, now and again we do give concerts
for charity.
One of the singers explains what happens on Wednesday evenings,
in her Christmas poem.
We cannot let a Christmas go without a verse or two
In tribute to our mentor who has taught us all year through.
If you come on Wednesday you may wonder what we do.
We hiss, we grunt, pretend to ski; Ann even makes us chew!
We roll our shoulders, pat our face, on high we wave our arms,
We bend our knees and touch our toes displaying all our charms.
Ann
says it’s
for our breathing, all the better for to sing.
To stand up straight with posture good, our notes and true to
sing.
One of our major problems is we often go quite flat.
But Ann is very kind to us, the weather’s blamed for that!
We’re
sure she cringes often, thinks she teaches us in vain.
But when it comes together, ‘tis such a sweet refrain.
So thank you Ann. You make it fun for two hours of our leisure.
So here’s to yet another year with Ann, to sing for pleasure.
